I had a great turn out this weekend at my Open Studio. Perfect weather, good people and lots of great art to see. I’m not sure if my art was the big draw or perhaps that big bowl of Starburst candy I set out? My husband and son even rode their bikes from Manhattan to Long Island City to give me a quick break so I could dash out and view some of the other artists’ studios and their art. I snapped this photo of my husband “pitching” my paintings to a perspective collector.
The 4th Annual LIC Arts Open is happening May 14-18 and it is the biggest open yet. Over 250 artists will take over 54 venues across Long Island City, from factories and warehouses to a glass tower on LIC’s developing waterfront for a total of over 85 exhibitions and events. Over 160 artists will open their studio doors for the Open Studios weekend. The full 2014 Festival Guide is found HERE. Simply put, it’s a massive party with music, art, dance and even a light show. Check out www.licartsopen.org to see all the events and details.
For my part, I will be hosting an open studio this Saturday and Sunday (May 17 & 18) from 12 – 5 pm. Please stop by to take a peek. There are over 160 open studios so it is well worth the trip. I’m in the Reis Studios Building (Studio 225) at 43-01 22nd Street, LIC. It’s a breeze to get here, just one subway stop outside of Manhattan, (an easy drive here as well but limited parking). Directions are here with information including how to use the free shuttle once you get here. I’ve got some paintings on sale too so stop by for a great deal.
If you’re in NYC this weekend, stop by my studio and say “hi”! LIC Arts Open is this Saturday and Sunday from noon to 5 pm. Over 200 artists in Long Island City are opening their studios to the public and I’m one of them. It’s just one subway stop out of Manhattan in Queens. Take the E, F or M train to the Court Square station, then it’s only a three block walk! Drop by my studio at Reis Studios (43-01 22nd St., LIC) . I’m giving away free candy…okay it’s not much of a bribe but it’s better than nothing!
